What does a TELUS IP mean in a privacy test?
A TELUS address as your visible IP means the connection left over a TELUS line in Canada with nothing tunnelling it. The registry does not label which lines are residential, business or mobile, so a match establishes the carrier and the country and stops there - the reverse DNS is where any finer placement comes from.

AS852 announces a few hundred IPv4 prefixes where the other Canadian incumbents put well over a thousand each into the routing table, and many of TELUS's are plain /16s - 161.19.0.0/16, 108.180.0.0/16, 207.81.0.0/16, 154.5.0.0/16 - alongside older blocks such as 209.52.0.0/15. A short list of large aggregates is easier to hold in a filter than a long list of specifics, which makes this one of the few consumer networks where enumerating prefixes is practical at all.
What a telus.com hostname does and does not settle
TELUS names addresses plainly. 209.52.0.1 answers as h209-52-0-1.ptr.qidc.telus.com: an h prefix, the address in dashes, then two labels inside telus.com. Unlike Bell's names, which carry a telephone-exchange place code, or Rogers' names, which say pool and cpe outright, there is no city and no line type in it. The hostname confirms the operator and gives the address back, and that is the whole of it.
So on this network the ASN is doing most of the work. What it settles is that AS852 is access network rather than hosting - there is no rented compute here for a proxy or a VPN exit to run on - and that the connection was carried by TELUS. What it leaves open is everything finer: the registry does not distinguish a home line from a business circuit or a mobile session, and nothing published maps an address to a subscriber.
