What does a Rogers Communications IP mean in a privacy test?
A Rogers address as your visible IP means the request reached the site over a Rogers line in Canada with nothing tunnelling it. The reverse DNS says more than the ASN does: it marks the address as customer premises equipment on the cable plant, drawn from a dynamic pool, which rules out the hosted-server reading straight away.
Where to get Rogers' address list
Rogers publishes no range file. The registry is the source: ARIN holds AS812 under the AS name ROGERS-COMMUNICATIONS, registered to Rogers Communications Canada Inc. on 24 July 2002, and the prefixes above are the largest currently announced. One thing to know before treating AS812 as the whole company: it is not. Rogers closed its acquisition of Shaw on 3 April 2023, and the two networks are still separate in the routing table. AS6327 announces its own prefixes and names them in its own reverse-DNS zone, so a Canadian address that belongs to Rogers commercially can sit on either ASN and a filter written against AS812 alone will not see the Shaw side of the business. What a rogers.com hostname marks
Rogers writes the answer into the hostname. 99.224.0.1 answers as pool-99-224-0-1.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com, and each label is doing work: pool says the address came from a dynamic assignment pool, cpe says the far end is customer premises equipment, and cable says which access network. A PTR query therefore establishes that the address is a subscriber line and not a hosted machine, without any inference from the block it sits in.
The same labels set the limits. A pool address is reassigned, so it identifies a connection at a moment rather than a household over time, and it will belong to a different customer later. Nor does it say anything about the person: Rogers publishes no mapping from addresses to accounts, and the registry record stops at the company. What a match does settle is the network and the kind of line, which is usually the question a leak test raised in the first place.
