What does a Telia Company IP mean in a privacy test?
An address inside AS3301 sits on Telia's Swedish network, but that alone does not make it a Telia retail customer: Telia's own wholesale arm Skanova, now trading as Telia Wholesale, leases capacity over the same infrastructure to other Swedish ISPs, and the block is unrelated to Arelion, the former Telia Carrier backbone, now a separate company.
Where Telia's own IP range data comes from
AS3301's RIPE aut-num object gives the as-name TELIANET-SWEDEN, holds the org handle ORG-TA45-RIPE, and resolves to Telia Company AB at an address in Solna, in the Stockholm area, under org-type LIR. Its address blocks follow a netname pattern that encodes the allocation date - SE-TELIASE-20010402 for 217.208.0.0/13, SE-TELIASE-991112 for 213.64.0.0/14 - dates that match those blocks exactly in RIPE's own delegated-extended statistics file, both filed as status ALLOCATED PA under maintainer TELIANET-LIR. Several of those inetnum objects also carry a remarks: line reading Geofeed followed by https://lg.telia.net/ripe/AS3301_geofeed.csv, an RFC 8805-format plain-text file listing prefix, country, region and city, with the postal-code column left empty. As fetched, it holds 18,190 rows: 18,175 are tagged SE, and 18,138 of those name one of 63 distinct cities, led by Stockholm at 4,717 rows with Gothenburg and Malmo behind it. 390 rows are IPv6. Fifty-two rows give a country and nothing else - 37 of them Swedish aggregates such as 217.208.0.0/13 and 78.64.0.0/12 that the finer rows sit inside, and the other 15 the only non-Swedish entries in the file, three each for Norway, Finland and Denmark and two each for Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, all of them /29s and /30s carved out of 195.67.197.0/24 and reading as cross-border link networks rather than customer footprint.
What is actually routed shifts by the day, so any count is a snapshot rather than a constant. On 23 August 2026 RIPEstat's two views agreed exactly: routing-status and the announced-prefixes listing each returned 312 IPv4 prefixes and 43 IPv6 prefixes for AS3301, covering about 6.5 million IPv4 addresses. The shape is steadier than the number: four legacy /12s - 78.64.0.0/12, 81.224.0.0/12, 90.224.0.0/12 and 95.192.0.0/12 - then 217.208.0.0/13, which carries a valid RPKI ROA naming AS3301 as its only permitted origin, down to 237 individual /24s. AS3301's own aut-num record documents its BGP community scheme in full: default local preference 200 for customer routes, 3301:50, 3301:100 and 3301:150 to de-preference a route, and named per-neighbor communities that still label upstream AS1299 as TeliaCarrier and AS544 as Telia-international-network, alongside peers Tele2, Telenor, Nordunet, Bahnhof and GlobalConnect - the same AS1299 that left Telia Company when the sale to Polhem Infra closed in June 2021 and was renamed Arelion in January 2022, its old name still sitting in Telia's own router configuration five years on.
Telia customer, Telia infrastructure, or a Skanova wholesale line
Reverse DNS on AS3301 splits into recognizably different zones. A fixed broadband or business line answers under customer.telia.com with the address written into the hostname, such as 195-67-42-25.customer.telia.com. A public wifi hotspot - the kind Telia sells into cafes, hotels, airports and offices under its Homerun and Telia Wifi branding - answers under homerun.telia.com instead, with a different hostname shape: host-78-65-29-1.homerun.telia.com. Backbone and access-network hardware sits in a third zone, tbcn.telia.com, with a gateway number and node code rather than an address: gw463-no600.tbcn.telia.com, gw1-no2103.tbcn.telia.com. Those three are not the whole list - a PTR sweep across the geofeed also returns digitaltv.telia.com, bredband.telia.com, mobileonline.telia.com and se.telia.net. None of that is guesswork - every hostname above comes from a live PTR lookup on an address drawn from Telia's own published geofeed.
What none of that proves is that the traffic belongs to Telia the retailer. The Swedish access network is held by Skanova AB, a wholly owned Telia Company subsidiary now sold under the Telia Wholesale brand, which leases fibre and copper capacity over the same infrastructure to other Swedish ISPs - so an AS3301 address can carry a competitor's service to an end customer rather than Telia's own. Skanova's name does surface in the reverse DNS, though on network equipment rather than subscriber lines: 81.228.9.65 answers as vip1-gw-311-sn4.vrr.skanova.net. An AS3301 result also does not distinguish a fixed line from a mobile connection - mobileonline.telia.com addresses sit inside the same announcement - does not confirm a residential household over a business tenancy, and says nothing about the rest of the Telia Company group: Finland, Norway, Denmark and the Baltic states run under their own separate operating companies and their own AS numbers, entirely outside this announcement. And it is not Arelion. AS1299 carried the Telia name until the sale to Polhem Infra closed in June 2021, took the Arelion name in January 2022, and has no ownership tie back to Telia Company, whatever residual labels survive in either side's router configuration.

Does an IP inside AS3301 guarantee the connection belongs to Telia?
It guarantees the address is registered and routed by Telia Company AB, which RIPE whois and RPKI data both confirm independently. It does not guarantee the traffic is Telia retail: Skanova AB, Telia's wholly owned network subsidiary now trading as Telia Wholesale, leases the same physical network to other Swedish ISPs, so an address can be routed by AS3301 while the actual service belongs to a different provider.
