Vodafone Espana is the Spanish operator that Vodafone Group sold to Zegona Communications on 31 May 2024. Its main network originates from AS12430, registered with RIPE as VODAFONE_ES and maintained under AIRTELNET-MNT, with abuse for the space directed to abuse@corp.vodafone.es. The allocations underneath sit with two different registrants: ORG-AMS1-RIPE holds the ES-AIRTEL blocks, among them 37.222.0.0/15 created 5 April 2012, while ORG-OA4-RIPE, still a separate LIR recorded as VODAFONE ONO of Barcelona, holds the ES-ONO blocks including 84.120.0.0/13 created 15 April 2004.

What does a Vodafone Spain IP mean in a privacy test?

The reverse name on a Vodafone Spain address tells you which of the merged networks it came from, and the three families do not even agree on how to write an address down. Cable space keeps the octets in ordinary order with the dots intact, so 84.126.10.10 answers as 84.126.10.10.dyn.user.ono.com. Fixed and business space under Comunitel reverses them, so 46.24.200.30 answers as static-30-200-24-46.ipcom.comunitel.net, which reads as a completely different address to anyone parsing left to right. Which acquired network an address actually belongs to

The three reverse-DNS zones line up with the three registry lineages, which makes attribution unusually easy here. An address resolving under ono.com is in a block whose netname begins ES-ONO- and whose registrant is ORG-OA4-RIPE; one resolving under red-acceso.airtel.net sits in ES-AIRTEL- space registered to ORG-AMS1-RIPE; the ipcom.comunitel.net names cover the fixed and business side and are the ones carrying an explicit static- prefix, as on 89.6.7.7 and 188.84.100.10. All three are announced by the same ASN and all three are the same company today.

Two cautions before drawing conclusions. First, a per-address PTR does not prove the line is free of carrier-grade translation - no operator statement on that could be read here, so treat the name as evidence about the block's lineage rather than about whether an inbound connection can reach anything. Second, AS12430 is not the whole of Vodafone Spain: AS12357 is separately named COMUNITEL and AS6739 is ONO-AS, described as the Vodafone ONO AS, both inside the same macro and both maintained under AIRTELNET-MNT, so a customer of this operator may appear under an ASN that is not this one.

Why does my Vodafone address resolve to something at ono.com?

Because the block was allocated to the cable operator ONO, which the group absorbed, and the reverse DNS zone was never renamed. The RIPE record for that space is still held by a separate local internet registry recorded as VODAFONE ONO in Barcelona, so the ono.com name is correct and current, not a leftover error.

Why do Comunitel reverse names look like a different IP address?
