OVPN Leak Test

OVPN describes an infrastructure most providers do not claim: hardware it owns rather than rents, bare metal rather than virtual machines, and servers running with no hard drives at all because the operating system lives only in RAM. It also runs its own log-free resolvers and supports IPv6 on every server, enabled by default on new accounts. None of that is visible from a browser, which is the reason to read the lines below rather than the marketing.

Servers with no hard drives

OVPN states that all its VPN servers operate without hard drives because the operating system resides only in RAM. That is a claim about what can survive a power cycle on the server side. It says nothing about what your browser hands to a website a moment later, which is the only thing measured on this page.

Owned hardware rather than rented capacity

OVPN says all the hardware used to operate the service is owned by it, with no rented servers and no virtual machines. For a reading here that matters in one narrow way: the network your exit address belongs to should stay consistent with OVPN rather than drifting between hosting companies from one session to the next.

IPv6 is on by default

OVPN supports IPv4 and IPv6 on all of its VPN servers and enables IPv6 by default on accounts. An empty IPv6 line here is therefore worth a second look rather than a sigh of relief, because it may mean the device or the network you are on has no IPv6 at all rather than that the tunnel is handling it.

Its own resolvers, and an option to keep them

OVPN operates log-free DNS servers of its own to prevent DNS leaks, and its desktop client points the computer at them while connected. It also offers to set them permanently on the machine. If you took that option, a resolver naming OVPN while you are disconnected is your own earlier configuration, not a fault.

What a diskless server cannot tell you

Server design is a statement about the provider. This page is a statement about one browser, on one network, in one moment. The two can disagree without either being wrong, and where they disagree the local side is nearly always the one you can act on.

One reading of an OVPN session describes one instant. A disconnect and a reconnect is a stretch of seconds, and anything that surfaced inside that stretch is invisible to a check that samples once.

What this cannot prove

  • This checks visible browser/session signals only.
  • This does not certify the provider.
  • This does not test every server, app, device, or connection.
  • This does not prove anonymity.
  • This does not prove every security condition.
  • A clean result does not prove every leak is absent.

How to compare before and after on OVPN

  1. Note the IPv4 address, any IPv6 address and the resolver before you connect.
  2. Connect with the OVPN client and leave IPv6 enabled on the device.
  3. Run the checks again in the same browser without switching profile.
  4. Confirm the IPv4 and IPv6 lines point at the same network rather than at two different ones.

Does OVPN support IPv6?

Why is my IPv6 line empty then?

Most often because the network or device you are testing from has no IPv6 of its own. The check reports what the browser could reach; it cannot tell you which link in the chain lacks the address.
