The RIPE database still records it under the historic as-name ASN-IBSNAZ, from Interbusiness, the company's original IP service; the aut-num object dates from 5 August 2002 and the organisation behind it, ORG-IA34-RIPE, is registered as a Local Internet Registry at Via Oriolo Romano 240 in Rome. The brand covers more than this network: Telecom Italia Sparkle, the group's international carrier, announces separately as AS6762 under the name SEABONE-NET.

What does a TIM (Telecom Italia) IP mean in a privacy test?
An AS3269 address is an Italian access line answering for itself, and TIM writes more on it than most carriers do. Nineteen of twenty addresses sampled inside AS3269 for this page had a reverse name, all in the form host-87-14-20-30.retail.telecomitalia.it with the zone alternating between retail and business, so the product side of the line is readable straight from a log entry. What the address does not tell you is who owns the circuit under it: KKR completed its purchase of TIM's fixed network in July 2024 and the access infrastructure now sits inside FiberCop, while TIM kept the consumer and enterprise service business along with the addresses and the ASN. The RIPE organisation record behind AS3269 is still Telecom Italia S.p.A. and was last modified on 13 May 2026. On the IPv6 side there is nothing to read at all, because AS3269 announces exactly one block, 2a01:2000::/20, so an IPv6 address places a subscriber inside TIM and no further.
Where TIM states what a block was sold as
There is almost nothing to fetch. TIM publishes no geolocation feed, the AS3269 aut-num object carries no geofeed remark, none of the inetnums checked for this page carried a geofeed: attribute, and the PeeringDB record for the ASN is a name and nothing else: IRR as-set, traffic level, peering policy and website are all blank, scope is marked not disclosed, and the IPv6 flag is set to false even though AS3269 announces an IPv6 prefix. That is worth knowing before you go looking, because it means there is no operator-side file to reconcile a lookup against and no published policy document to read.
What is left is the RIPE inetnum, and TIM does fill it in, as a product catalogue that stopped being updated. 79.40.0.0/17 is netname TELECOM-ADSL-POOL, described as NAS DHCP Pool ALESSANDRIA, created and last modified on the same day in June 2010. 87.0.0.0/12 is TELECOM-ADSL-7, described as TIN EASY LITE, untouched since May 2006. 95.224.0.0/12 is ALICE-SMART, described as Alice - Smart Services. Alice and TIN are retail brands TIM retired years ago and the records still carry them, so a description is a real statement of what a block was provisioned for, sometimes down to the exchange, but it is not maintained. The one field that is current is abuse handling: the ALICE-SMART record carries a remarks block warning that mail sent anywhere else will be ignored, and gives abuse@retail.telecomitalia.it.
Reading retail against business on an AS3269 address
The reverse name is the fastest read and it is finer-grained than the registry. Every answering address resolved to host- followed by the four octets in order, then a zone: host-79-40-10-20.business.telecomitalia.it or host-95-233-70-80.retail.telecomitalia.it. Ten addresses sampled inside the single ALICE-SMART inetnum, which spans 95.224.0.0 to 95.239.255.255, came back five business and four retail with one not answering. So the whois record tells you the product family while the PTR tells you which side of the retail line a particular address sits on; the two are answering different questions rather than contradicting each other, and the business zone is TIM's provisioning label, not proof that a company rather than a household is behind it.
For the operator-against-customer question the inetnum description does the work. A record beginning NAS DHCP Pool is stating that addresses in it are handed out dynamically from a pool at a named exchange, which makes a single address weak evidence of a particular subscriber and the same address a week later weaker still. What you will not find much of on AS3269 is rented compute. This is TIM's access network, so a machine accepting inbound connections here is far more likely to be a subscriber's own router or server on a fixed line than anything TIM hosts for a third party, and the covering inetnum will say pool, or name a retired retail product, rather than anything resembling a hosting allocation.

No. Sparkle is the group's international carrier and announces AS6762, registered as SEABONE-NET TELECOM ITALIA SPARKLE S.p.A. An address on AS6762 is wholesale or carrier traffic rather than an Italian retail line, so the two should not be treated as one network just because the brand is shared.
